ADHD Parenting Tip - Make Sure You Are Scheduling in Me Time When Caring For a Child With ADHD

Parenting a child with ADHD often requires just a little bit more effort than raising a child who does not have ADHD. Or maybe it just feels that way. Either way, you can quickly find yourself feeling like you are faced with an impossible task.

I'll be honest with you here. I can give you all the strategies in the world, and none of them will make a difference for you if you don't take the time to slow down and take care of yourself.

Is that too bold of a statement?

What if I told you that caring for yourself, can be as easy as taking 30 minutes out of your day to do something that is completely for you. That's right. Some people like a massage, others like a manicure or pedicure, or maybe you like to shop. Whatever it is, you need something that is entirely your own. No one gets to interfere with it, unless of course you welcome them into your space.

Self-Care

I've seen too many parents who are burnt out. They've been caught up in the day to day stress for so long, that they have forgotten how to enjoy their children, let alone how to enjoy themselves.

I've been there, and it's no fun. As a stay-at-home parent, it's just too easy to see life as being all about your children. But, you need to recharge. You need to refuel, and you need to relax.

I know it sounds easy, but I recognize that it just might be the hardest of the strategies I can give you.

Here's where it gets hard. If you aren't in a place where you have the energy to deal with what comes your way, you just might never be able to see how powerful all the other strategies are.

That's why I want you to schedule in some time for yourself. Go ahead and take out your calendar, and block out time where you are only focused on relaxing and giving your body the break it deserves.
