ADHD Parenting Tip - Food Additives and Ingredients to Avoid For a Child With ADHD

Due to the overwhelming controversy about ADHD medications, so many people are now turning to alternative treatments that people just might believe anything. And this is too bad because there is just so much information, or misinformation as I like to call it, that the wrong advice is being circulated and handed down to parents who need it the most.

One of the latest and greatest fads circulating right now about ADHD is the concept of food allergies, food additives, and ingredients that contribute to ADHD.

Now, this is of course not a new trend, but one that is increasing or gaining in popularity.

There is this idea that if we can just monitor or control our child's diet, then the ADHD symptoms will just go away.

Let me set this straight...

If changing or altering your child's diet "gets rid" of ADHD, then it wasn't ADHD to begin with. Most people don't realize that ADHD is a diagnosis of exclusion. In other words, there are just so many different conditions, illnesses, and "things" that can look like ADHD.

Allergies can mimic symptoms of ADHD, as well as some food ingredients and additives (like sugar). But they don't cause ADHD. And removing these ingredients won't cure it either. All they do is make the symptoms or behaviors appear worse or appear to be present when it is not.

So what do you do?

How do you know for sure?

Clearly the right diagnosis is everything. So first thing first is to make sure that what we are dealing with really is ADHD.

The next thing, watch what your child is eating. Sugars and some food dyes are known to exacerbate symptoms of ADHD, as well as making someone like they are struggling with ADHD.

Finally, you really need to speak with a competent nutritionist, psychiatrist, and or other specialist whose practice specializes in ADHD.

Bottom line? Make sure you are getting the right information from the right people. And to get you started with information that will make a difference today, I'd like to offer you access to a special report on the keys to success in school for a child with ADHD.
