Why would people go on the Internet and look up the words, parenting tips and things to avoid doing. Well, usually when people look up something on the internet, it is because they are looking to buy something, or they're looking to take care of a need or problem.
The searches on parenting tips usually bring back a wide array of responses. Matter of fact, if you plug that term into google, you will get about nineteen million results. Now that is a lot of results. What we need to do is narrow the focus down just a bit!
You will need to know what the main source of the problem is. Once you figure this out, then you will have a place to start from.
It will also be helpful to know where you see yourself in the short term, say in one month. After you take a look at this scenario, then you can try to imagine things a little further down the road.
So what exactly do we have to avoid here? And why would we need to avoid it?
Whenever we are to be working with our children, and the difficulties that we are having with them, we will need to be realistic in what has truly been working, and what has not been working. Then we can more accurately assess the entire situation.
Now we will list the 3 points you must do your very best to avoid!
First off, you will need to stop letting your children do whatever it is that they want. This is a parenting tip that can't be understated. The primary reasoning for this is that you must begin to set a precedent that gives them boundaries. You must not be forceful by screaming and yelling, but you must not play into them by letting them control you. If you have to ignore them and just walk away, then do that.
How much avoidance is the right amount? Believe me, you will find that when dealing with children, especially when they are younger, you will not have to be in avoidance mode for very long. They will surely soon get bored when they see that you are not engaging them anymore.
Second, you must not let yourself be compromised. And just why would that be? Once you begin backpedaling on an issue, they will keep moving forward until you are completely powerless. Again, the less you engage them when they are challenging you, the better off you will be. Soon, you will see that they've had enough.
How do we know what is enough? You will know when they begin to change the subject. This means that they have subconsciously given up on the point that was being challenged.
Third and finally, you should remember that your children are just kids. When you get frustrated, and lecture them about what it is you want them to do, they will not be able to comprehend what you're trying to tell them. The reason behind that is that when children are young, they become fearful, especially if you raise your voice. When children are yelled or screamed at, they will only shut down. Consequently, they will not be able to see what it is you are trying to say to them. The best thing to do is to let it go until you have calmed down.
How do we know that we've let the situation cool off enough? When your children have changed their mood, changed the subject, or generally moved onto something else entirely, usually out of boredom, it is safe to say that the situation is over.
Avoiding these problems does not mean that all is good, however, you will have a much better chance at benefiting from another question. What parenting tips refer to the things that I can do that are good for my children?
