There is a lot of information out there about ADHD, and unfortunately so much of it is completely inaccurate and misleading. As the parent of a child with ADHD, you need accurate information that will support your efforts in helping your child achieve success in his or her life.
Common Myths Exposed
Let's go ahead and take a look at some of the most common, and wildly speculated myths about ADHD.
Bad parenting causes ADHD.
We all have a little ADHD (some of the time).
Diet causes ADHD.
Medication will cure ADHD.
ADHD is created by drug companies.
Children need more discipline.
There was no ADHD when I was younger.
While some of these make a strong argument, they have all one thing in common. They are all false and inaccurate. I suppose to some extent, every "myth" has a little bit of truth in it, but when it comes to ADHD, these are all very misleading.
The Truth
No matter what you believe, there will be in your life who try to tell you otherwise. Everyone has an opinion, and everyone wants that opinion heard. Nothing could be more true than when it comes to the speculation and circulation of lies and conspiracy of ADHD.
Whether or not your child is affected by ADHD, I assure you it is very real. At the very least, it is real because of all the public attention and scrutiny. But even beyond that, ADHD represents differences in the brain and how certain people function and interpret the world.
If there is one thing I can leave you with today, I want you to know that ADHD is grossly misunderstood. People call it a deficit, when in reality it represents differences in how a child thinks, learns, prioritizes, organizes, and makes meaning of the world.
Bottom Line? A child with ADHD needs the right tools, resources, supports, and understanding to be successful in school and in life. I'd like to help with that! Download your free ADHD Essentials Audio Kit today, and you'll get immediate access to information and strategies that will make a difference.
